Do I need a building permit for a storage building in Tennessee?

There are statewide codes, but jurisdictions can choose to enact their own building codes.  We encourage you to check with your local code enforcement agency.

In Nashville sheds and carports that are 10 feet by 10 feet (10’ x 10’) in size or larger require a permit. All must be set within the required setbacks for the property. Utility sheds and similar structures cannot be converted to or be used as a living space.

This is a personal choice but we have found that 14′ x 20′ is the most popular cabin size in middle Tennessee and the Nashville Tennessee region.

What is the most popular tiny home sizes?
It varies but generally only up to 1000 square feet. Some of the common tiny home suggested sizes in the Nashville and middle Tennessee areas would include: 14′ x 32′ and 16′ x 40′.
Can you build a shed on my property?

Most sheds are built on our property in Lebanon, TN however, we do offer on site builds for specific items including on-site garages.
